Loft Bed Woodworking Plans

Loft beds are popular because they offer a lot of sleeping space in a small amount of floor space. Building a loft bed is a great project for the beginning woodworker. The plans shown here are for a basic loft bed, but you can easily modify them to fit your needs.

Tools and materials:

Circular saw



Drill

1 inch hole saw

Tape measure

Plywood – 3/4 inch thick

2x4s

Construction adhesive

Cordless drill

1 inch wood screws

1 1/4 inch wood screws

Sandpaper

Paint or a sealant

The first step is to cut the plywood to size. You will need two pieces, each measuring 24 inches by 48 inches.

Next, cut the 2x4s to size. You will need four pieces, each measuring 24 inches by 2 inches.

Glue and screw the 2x4s to the plywood, making sure that the edges of the plywood are flush with the edges of the 2x4s.

Now it’s time to drill the holes. Use the 1 inch hole saw to drill two holes in the headboard, each measuring 3 inches from the edge and 3 inches from the top.



Use the cordless drill to drill two holes in the footboard, each measuring 3 inches from the edge and 3 inches from the bottom.

Finally, sand and paint or seal the bed.
